Effects of mineral phosphorus fertilizer reduction and maize straw incorporation on soil phosphorus availability, acid phosphatase activity, and maize grain yield in northeast China

Kai Wei et al.

Summary: The study found that reducing 20% of mineral P fertilizer and adding maize straw for five consecutive years increased soil phosphorus concentrations and did not decrease soil labile inorganic P concentration and grain yield. There were significant positive correlations between soil acid phosphatase activity, labile inorganic P concentration, and grain yield, suggesting that acid phosphatase plays an important role in maintaining soil P availability and grain yield. Overall, maize straw addition can effectively replace 20% of the mineral P fertilizer and is a suitable fertilization practice in northeast China.

Phosphorus accumulation and leaching risk of greenhouse vegetable soils in Southeast China

Yusef Kianpoor Kalkhajeh et al.

Summary: This study quantified phosphorus accumulation in Chinese greenhouse vegetable production soils and found high phosphorus content in topsoils but lower total phosphorus content in subsoils. Phosphorus desorption dominated in highly saturated topsoils, while adsorbed phosphorus increased in the 80-100 cm subsoils with slightly larger adsorption capacity.
