Perspective on the Future Approaches to Predict Retention in Liquid Chromatography

Fabrice Gritti

Summary: The demand for accurate retention time prediction in liquid chromatography has led to the adoption of experimental protocols and software by analysts. Classical approaches for retention time prediction, both inverse and direct methods, are discussed, with a focus on the need for increased accuracy in the future. Statistical methods and quality by design methods based on solid-liquid adsorption and gradient chromatography principles are identified as key elements to improve accuracy in retention time prediction.
