Film-like bacterial cellulose/cyclodextrin oligomer composites with controllable structure for the removal of various persistent organic pollutants from water

Fei Liu et al.

Summary: The study introduces a film-like water purifier prepared by loading cyclodextrin oligomer onto ultrafine nanofibers of bacterial cellulose, which shows remarkable removal ability towards various target pollutants and excellent reusability. The product has commercial potential due to its stable adsorption ability and convenient shape for treating actual sewage in complex systems and large-scale applications.

Spatial distribution, deposition flux, and environmental impact of typical persistent organic pollutants in surficial sediments in the Eastern China Marginal Seas (ECMSs)

Zhe Hao et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the distribution of three typical POPs in the Eastern China Marginal Seas and found that it was significantly influenced by river input and regional hydrodynamics. High concentrations of POPs were mainly found in areas such as the Yellow River Estuary and East China Sea, posing a threat to local aquaculture.

Fully automated graphitic carbon nitride-based disposable pipette extraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometric analysis of six polychlorinated biphenyls in environmental waters

Sze Chieh Tan et al.

Summary: A fully automated online method using emulsification-enhanced disposable pipette extraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (EE-DPX-GC-MS) was developed for the extraction of six polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from environmental waters. The use of graphitic carbon nitride as sorbent in a DPX device enabled rapid analyte adsorption and desorption, leading to high extraction efficiency. The method showed wide dynamic working ranges, good linearity, low detection limits, high enrichment factors, and good precision in both intra- and inter-day analysis.

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Related Chemicals in the Global Environment: Some Personal Reflections

Kevin C. Jones

Summary: Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and related chemicals have a complex range of physical-chemical properties and effects, with the potential to accumulate in the environment and impact human health. Their long-range transport abilities and lipophilic nature make them a challenging issue for regulators and policymakers.
