Expression and secretion of apoE isoforms in astrocytes and microglia during inflammation

Maria Fe Lanfranco et al.

Summary: Neuroinflammation is a common feature in neurodegenerative diseases and is modulated by the Alzheimer's disease risk factor, apolipoprotein E (APOE). Our study found that astrocytes and microglia express and secrete differentially glycosylated forms of apoE, with APOE4 cells showing deficient immunomodulation compared to APOE2 and APOE3.

CSF SERPINA3 Levels Are Elevated in Patients With Progressive MS

Nicolas Fissolo et al.

Summary: This study identified two new biomarkers, Serpina3n and S100A4, which were upregulated during the progressive phases of multiple sclerosis and induced during neuronal differentiation. Levels of SERPINA3 and S100A4 were found to be increased in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with progressive forms of MS compared to noninflammatory neurologic controls. Additionally, CSF SERPINA3 levels were significantly correlated with CSF neurofilament light chain levels in patients with primary progressive MS.
