Emerging molecular functions and novel roles for the DEAD-box protein Dbp5/DDX19 in gene expression

Arvind Arul Nambi Rajan et al.

Summary: The DEAD-box protein Dbp5 is a member of the SFII helicase superfamily and plays multiple important roles in gene expression, including regulating mRNA export, non-coding RNA export, translation, transcription, and DNA metabolism. It has the ability to function in different cellular compartments and modulate various stages of RNA lifecycle. Despite over 20 years of research on Dbp5, unanswered questions remain regarding its localization, substrate selection, and mechanistic principles in gene expression.

Distinct roles of nuclear basket proteins in directing the passage of mRNA through the nuclear pore

Yichen Li et al.

Summary: The study utilized high-speed super-resolution single molecule microscopy to characterize the copy number and specific functions of three proteins within the nuclear pore complex. It was found that these proteins have a 1:1:1 stoichiometric ratio and play distinct roles in mRNA nuclear export, with the absence of Tpr or Nup153 affecting the 3D export routes. Depletion of Nup153 and Nup50 results in a significant decrease in mRNA export efficiency.
