Neodymium isotopic constraints on Cenozoic Asian dust provenance changes linked to the exhumation history of the northern Tibetan Plateau and the Central Asian Orogenic Belt

Yibo Yang et al.

Summary: Studying the provenance history of Asian dust can provide insights into the evolution of topography and climate in inland Asia. Lack of long dust Nd isotopic records from the Tibetan Plateau and Central Asian Orogenic Belt has hindered a full understanding of Asian dust provenance changes. Results indicate significant changes in the epsilon(Nd)(0) values and contribution of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt to Asian dust at approximately 25 Ma, likely related to tectonic uplift and aridification in inland Asia.
