Improvement in fire-retardant properties of polypropylene filled with intumescent flame retardants, using flower-like nickel cobaltate as synergist

Wenjing Zhao et al.

Summary: The addition of three-dimensional flower-like nickel cobaltate (NiCo2O4) into polypropylene (PP) with intumescent flame retardant (IFR) showed synergistic effects, significantly enhancing the flame retardancy, smoke suppression, and forming a continuous stable char layer at high temperatures. The presence of NiCo2O4 also improved the water resistance and had only a slight negative effect on tensile strength of the PP composite.

Excellent role of Cu2O on fire safety of epoxy resin with ammonium polyphosphate based on the construction of self-intumescent flame retardant system

Cheng-Shou Zhao et al.

Summary: This study presents an effective self-intumescent flame retardant system for epoxy resin based on the synergistic effect between Cu2O and ammonium polyphosphate. The optimal mass ratio of Cu2O: APP was found to be 2:8, resulting in improved fire performance of EP. The presence of Cu2O catalyzes char formation and CO to CO2 conversion, leading to decreased heat release and smoke production in EP.

Synergistic effects of polyoxometalate-based ionic liquid-doped sepiolite in intumescent flame-retardant high-density polyethylene

Xin Li et al.

Summary: A polyoxometalate-based ionic liquid-doped sepiolite was successfully prepared and applied in constructing a new intumescent flame-retardant system for enhancing the flame retardancy of high-density polyethylene. The addition of SEP-PIL into HDPE/IFR composites significantly improved the flame retardant properties, resulting in the composite achieving a UL-94V-0 rating.
