Spatio-temporal characterization of ablative Cu plasma produced by femtosecond filaments

Rajendhar Junjuri et al.

Summary: The spatial and temporal characteristics of copper (Cu) plasma generated by femtosecond laser filaments were investigated. It was found that the center of the filament is the best position to obtain maximum signal intensity and persistence time, which can enhance the application of this technique in various fields.

Spectro-temporal comparisons of optical emission, absorption, and laser-induced fluorescence for characterizing ns and fs laser-produced plasmas

S. S. Harilal et al.

Summary: In this study, simultaneous measurement of absorption, emission, and laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopic signatures was performed to determine the physical properties of nanosecond and femtosecond laser-produced plasma throughout its lifecycle. The results show that lower and excited-state populations in femtosecond laser-produced plasma are short-lived compared to those in nanosecond plasmas. Additionally, the kinetic temperature for nanosecond plasma was higher than for femtosecond plasma at most times of the plasma evolution.

Remote isotope detection and quantification using femtosecond filament-laser ablation molecular isotopic spectrometry

Jose Chirinos et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the detection and quantification of isotopes from solid samples remotely using femtosecond filaments and laser ablation molecular isotopic spectrometry (F-2-LAMIS). The method allows for standardless quantification of isotopic ratios at atmospheric pressure, opening up the possibility of using this technology for remote sensing of isotopes in field applications.

Filament-induced breakdown spectroscopy signal enhancement using optical wavefront control

L. A. Finney et al.

Summary: Filament-induced breakdown spectroscopy (FIBS) shows promise for remote sensing applications by utilizing wavefront control and genetic algorithms to enhance the intensity and reproducibility of spectroscopic features in metallic copper. Through wavefront optimization, a chosen characteristic spectroscopic feature of copper can be increased by approximately threefold over a one-meter distance, while reducing the relative standard deviation of signal intensity. The introduction of astigmatism and coma to modify the wavefront maximizes signal intensity, demonstrating potential for improved FIBS performance in remote sensing with broader use of wavefront control and feedback mechanisms.

Time-resolved absorption spectroscopic characterization of ultrafast laser-produced plasmas under varying background pressures

S. S. Harilal et al.

Summary: Time-resolved tunable laser absorption spectroscopy is used to characterize the physical properties of ultrafast laser-produced plasmas. Different pressure levels were found to have varying late time physical properties in the plasma. The study also showed that lower state population exists in the early stages of ultrafast laser-produced plasma evolution.
