Importance of Depth and Artificial Structure as Predictors of Female Red Snapper Reproductive Parameters

Nancy J. Brown-Peterson et al.

Summary: The study found that depth and month were the most important factors predicting reproductive parameters of female Red Snapper, while the type of structure (artificial reefs, oil platforms, and rigs-to-reefs structures) was not significant. By using the random forest ensemble model along with fish length, month, and depth, reproductive characteristics of female Red Snapper can be predicted successfully.

Temporal and spatial variation in adult and juvenile mobile fauna associated with natural and artificial coastal habitats

Alice E. Hall et al.

Summary: The study found that higher numbers of fish were present on artificial structures in the spring and early summer, but more fish were recorded on natural reefs by mid-summer and early autumn. However, overall differences in fish abundance and species between habitats were not significant. Differences in assemblage composition were mainly driven by specific sites, and there were seasonal differences in fish size between natural and artificial habitats.

Behavioral and Demographic Responses of Mule Deer to Energy Development on Winter Range

Joseph M. Northrup et al.

Summary: This study found that wildlife exhibit behavioral responses to habitat modification caused by hydrocarbon development, but these responses did not result in individual-level physiological or reproductive costs. Different levels of development in areas had significant impacts on mule deer habitat selection and survival rates, highlighting the importance of reducing human activity on wildlife.

Deep reefs are not refugium for shallow-water fish communities in the southwestern Atlantic

Aline P. M. Medeiros et al.

Summary: The study tested the deep reef refugia hypothesis by assessing the diversity of fish communities in shallow and deep reefs. The results showed that although some species occurred in both environments, overall, the diversity of shallow-water reef fish was not fully encapsulated in deep reefs.

Differences in trophic structure and trophic pathways between artificial reef and natural reef ecosystems along the coast of the North yellow Sea, China, based on stable isotope analyses

Rongliang Zhang et al.

Summary: Artificial reefs can support trophic structure and pathways similar to those of natural reefs, although there may be spatial differences in pathway magnitudes. The study shows that the development of artificial reef systems over the years enables them to be comparable to natural reef systems. Future research should focus on comparing specific trophic compartments and combining trophic ecology with community structure to better understand the development of artificial reef systems.
