Mechanism study of hemicellulose pyrolysis by combining in-situ DRIFT, TGA-PIMS and theoretical calculation

Gongxin Dai et al.

Summary: This study conducted an in-depth investigation of the pyrolysis mechanism of hemicellulose by combining advanced experimental techniques and quantum chemical calculations. The results showed that the dissociation of side chains and the cleavage of glycosidic bonds are competitive reactions during the pyrolysis of xylan, leading to the production of small compounds. The findings expand the understanding of hemicellulose pyrolysis and provide insights into the reaction pathways involved.

On the mechanism of xylan pyrolysis by combined experimental and computational approaches

Bin Hu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the pyrolysis mechanism of a common hemicellulose polysaccharide, xylan, using TG-FTIR and in-situ DRIFT techniques, revealing intense evolution of functional groups in the solid phase during the main weight loss zone (200-350 degrees C) leading to the violent release of volatiles.

Inherent Metal Elements in Biomass Pyrolysis: A Review

Paola Giudicianni et al.

Summary: The main drawback of using biomass as pyrolysis feedstock is the huge variability of different biomass resources, particularly due to inherent inorganic elements like AAEMs. Experimental investigations on the interactions between these elements and biomass organic fraction during pyrolysis are still debated. Analyzing possible experimental inconsistencies paves the way for modifying existing models to capture the effect of inorganics on pyrolysis kinetics.
