Effect of Si addition on microstructure and wear behavior of AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy coatings prepared by laser cladding

Summary: The addition of Si element refined the microstructure, increased the microhardness, and improved the wear behavior of the HEA coatings. The main wear mechanism evolved from adhesive wear, abrasive wear, and delamination wear to oxidation wear as the Si content increased.

Summary: Two refractory medium-entropy alloy coatings (NbTiZr and NbTaTiZr) with BCC solid-solution phase as their main constitutional phase were successfully fabricated on Zr702 alloy using pulsed laser cladding. The coatings exhibited high hardnesses attributed to solid-solution strengthening, grain refinement strengthening, and increased contents of low angle boundaries.
