Recurrent Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy Associated with Opioid Withdrawal During Buprenorphine Induction

Nazila Jamshidi et al.

Summary: This case report describes a 65-year-old female with iatrogenic opioid use disorder who developed Takotsubo cardiomyopathy on multiple occasions following buprenorphine induction for chronic lower back pain. The report highlights the potential consequences of precipitated withdrawal with buprenorphine in an opioid transfer, and suggests that clonidine may play a role in preventing cardiotoxicity in such cases.

Ketamine's rapid antisuicidal effects are not attenuated by Buprenorphine

Avinash Hosanagar et al.

Summary: Ketamine's rapid antisuicidal effects have garnered clinical interest, with recent research suggesting that its effects may not be solely through opioid pathways. This case study demonstrates that Buprenorphine does not block Ketamine's antisuicidal effects, and that Ketamine treatment can be safely administered to patients on Buprenorphine. Additionally, non-opioid mechanisms may be involved in Ketamine's antidepressant effects and response to suicidal ideations in patients on opioid partial agonists.

The Pharmacology of Buprenorphine Microinduction for Opioid Use Disorder

Joao P. De Aquino et al.

Summary: Expanding access to buprenorphine for opioid-use disorder treatment has increased healthcare system capacity but starting this medication poses significant challenges. Microinduction, a novel approach utilizing buprenorphine's pharmacological profile, shows promise in improving clinical outcomes for patients with OUD by potentially circumventing the need for prolonged opioid tapers and reducing the risk of precipitated withdrawal. Despite diverse evidence, including variable buprenorphine formulations and dosages, preliminary data support the feasibility of microinduction and offer new insights for future research in pharmacotherapy development.
