Detectivity: A combination of Hjorth's parameters for condition monitoring of ball bearings

Marco Cocconcelli et al.

Summary: Hjorth's parameters are statistical time-domain parameters introduced by Bo Hjorth in 1970, commonly used for feature extraction and health monitoring. In this paper, they are applied to vibration signals for fault detection in ball bearings, with a new parameter "Detectivity" introduced for continuous monitoring of machines. The study shows that Hjorth's parameters have good performance in monitoring the health of bearings.

Incipient fault diagnosis of bearings based on parameter-optimized VMD and envelope spectrum weighted kurtosis index with a new sensitivity assessment threshold

Ali Dibaj et al.

Summary: Most proposed fault diagnosis methods focus on detecting localized and incipient bearing faults, but it is unclear to what extent of fault severity they are capable of detecting. This study aims to address the crucial issue of defining criteria for incipient defects and provides a measure for assessing a decomposed-based fault diagnosis method using a parameter-optimized VMD approach and a new fault-sensitive index called WKI. Validation is done by investigating simulated vibration signals of a defective bearing at different fault severity and comparing with available methods in the literature.

A study on the diagnosis of compound faults in rolling bearings based on ITD-SVD

Xiang Pan et al.

Summary: This paper combines ITD and SVD methods to extract the compound fault characteristics of rolling bearings, denoising the signal and reconstructing it for precise extraction of characteristic frequency of compound faults from rolling bearings of aero-engine. The ITD-SVD method works better on noise control and provides more accurate results compared to conventional ITD algorithm and PCA method.
