Evaluation of date seed (Phoenix dactylifera L.) oil as crop base stock for environment friendly industrial lubricants

Mohammed Shabbir Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study aimed to produce and evaluate the performance of date seed oil as an alternative bio-based lubricant, with an optimum yield of 6% and good physicochemical properties such as clear yellow color, density of 0.907 g/cm³, and thermal stability up to 300 degrees C. The rheological properties, including viscosity at 40 degrees C and 100 degrees C, were assessed and compared with other bio-based oils and mineral oil, showing good potential for development into a bio-based lubricant.

Experimental investigation and process simulation of biolubricant production from waste cooking oil

Reda Z. K. Hussein et al.

Summary: Waste cooking oil was used to synthesize biolubricant, with optimized conditions achieving the highest conversion rate. The structural and thermal properties of the produced biolubricant were tested, showing compliance with ISO VG68 viscosity grade and better low temperature applicability. Simulation results demonstrated the industrial applicability of the studied biolubricant production process using different models on Aspen HYSYS program version 9.

Production of biolubricants from soybean oil: Studies for an integrated process with the current biodiesel industry

E. J. Parente et al.

Summary: Adding value through co-products and integrating with the oleochemical industry can enhance the competitiveness of the biodiesel industry, especially for novel products like biolubricants. The synthesis of biolubricants from soybean oil was evaluated using different reactions to produce a range of potential samples with varying properties. A feasible industrial process for producing biolubricants from soybean oil, involving 16 units, was proposed in this study.

The flow behavior of raw Jojoba oil in comparison with some traditional lube oils

Mamdouh T. Ghannam et al.

Summary: Experimental study suggests that raw Jojoba oil exhibits linear shear stress growth within a certain temperature range, which can be described by Herschel-Bulkley model. At high temperatures, raw Jojoba oil performs better than other lubricating oils.

A Short Review on Polymeric Biomaterials as Additives for Lubricants

Gobinda Karmakar et al.

Summary: The review discussed the synthesis and characterization of polymers and polymer composites derived from vegetable oils for use as multifunctional additives in eco-friendly lubricant formulations. The additives showed excellent performance as viscosity index improvers, pour point depressants, and antifriction additives when blended with lubricating base oils. These environmentally friendly additives were found to be non-toxic and biodegradable, outperforming commercial petroleum-based additives.
