Micro-mechanism of brittle creep in saturated sandstone and its mechanical behavior after creep damage

Zhaofei Chu et al.

Summary: The study found that the anisotropy of specimens significantly increases during creep, with a 30% difference in axial and lateral P-wave velocities at the onset of tertiary creep. Tensile cracks dominate the transient creep stage and the early part of the steady creep stage, while shear cracks dominate thereafter. The porosities of specimens increase with loading stages, with greater increments in porosity corresponding to small pores than those corresponding to large pores for all creep stages. Specimens with different degrees of creep damage exhibit greater deformability, with significant changes in short-term and creep mechanical parameters, except for uniaxial strength.

A Unified Constitutive Model for Rock Based on Newly Modified GZZ Criterion

Haohua Chen et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a unified constitutive model for rocks based on the modified generalized Zhang-Zhu criterion. The model is successfully implemented in a 3D finite-difference code and validated through true triaxial tests, with results showing good agreement with experimental data. The model is also used to predict rock displacements in a highway rock tunnel construction, with results matching field measurements.

Automated extraction and evaluation of fracture trace maps from rock tunnel face images via deep learning

Jiayao Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes an image-based method for automated rock fracture segmentation and fracture trace quantification, using the FraSegNet model, skeleton extraction algorithm, and polyline approximation algorithm. The research shows that the method outperforms other deep learning approaches and traditional image edge detection algorithms in extracting fracture trace maps and reducing noise, and the quantitative evaluation proves its effectiveness.

A new large strain approach for predicting tunnel deformation in strain-softening rock mass based on the generalized Zhang-Zhu strength criterion

Chen Xu et al.

Summary: A new large strain solution for tunnel excavated in strain-softening rocks under high geostress is proposed, which allows accurate prediction of rock stresses, strains, and deformations. Parametric studies show that the calculation error produced by small strain theory can reach 30% when the deformation of surrounding rock exceeds about 10%R0, indicating the necessity of using large strain theory for calculation.

A New Version of the Generalized Zhang-Zhu Strength Criterion and a Discussion on Its Smoothness and Convexity

Wuqiang Cai et al.

Summary: The study developed a new version of the generalized Zhang-Zhu strength criterion, addressing non-convexity issues on the pi plane for smoother and more reliable strength calculations. The new criterion achieves full convexity under high hydrostatic pressure and poor rock mass quality.
