Skin Toxicity in Early Breast Cancer Patients Treated with Field-In-Field Breast Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy versus Helical Inverse Breast Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy: Results of a Phase III Randomised Controlled Trial

K. Joseph et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of inverse-planned IMRT and forward FiF-IMRT on skin toxicity in early stage breast cancer patients, showing that inverse IMRT was superior in reducing skin toxicity compared to FiF-IMRT, with no significant difference in late toxicities between the two treatments.

Rebecca L. Siegel et al.

Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

Cancer Radiation Therapy May Be Associated With Atrial Fibrillation

Nachiket Apte et al.

Summary: The study found that compared to non-cancer patients, cancer patients have a higher prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF), but malignancy was not found to be an independent risk factor for AF after correction for covariates in a multivariable logistic regression model. Patients with solid tumors had a slightly higher prevalence of AF than those with hematological malignancies, but tumor type was not independently associated with AF. The prevalence of AF was higher in patients receiving chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or both compared to patients not receiving any therapy, with radiation therapy identified as an independent risk factor for AF.
