Changes in fasting bile acid profiles after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy

Chunlan Zhang et al.

Summary: The fasting bile acid levels, especially 12a-hydroxylated bile acid levels, were found to increase significantly after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). However, no significant changes in fasting bile acid levels were observed following sleeve gastrectomy (SG).

Bariatric Surgery Survey 2018: Similarities and Disparities Among the 5 IFSO Chapters

Luigi Angrisani et al.

Summary: The 2018 IFSO Survey focused on the similarities and disparities in the number and types of surgical and endoluminal interventions among the IFSO chapters over the past decade. The total number of surgical and endoluminal procedures performed globally in 2018 was 696,191, with sleeve gastrectomy being the most commonly performed bariatric procedure. The survey also showed a slight increase in the total number of reported bariatric interventions compared to the previous survey, with the one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) rising in popularity worldwide.

Effect of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy vs Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass on Weight Loss and Quality of Life at 7 Years in Patients With Morbid Obesity The SLEEVEPASS Randomized Clinical Trial

Sofia Gronroos et al.

Summary: The study compared weight loss and quality of life improvement at 7 years after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) in patients with morbid obesity. The results showed that LRYGB resulted in greater weight loss than LSG, but there was no significant difference in long-term quality of life between the two procedures.

Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass versus laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy: 5-year outcomes of merged data from two randomized clinical trials (SLEEVEPASS and SM-BOSS)

B. K. Wolnerhanssen et al.

Summary: After 5 years of follow-up, it was found that LRYGB resulted in greater weight loss and better improvement in hypertension compared to LSG, but there was no significant difference in remission of T2DM, obstructive sleep apnoea, or quality of life. The complication rate was higher after LRYGB, but the individual burden for patients with complications was similar after both operations.
