Aerodynamics Effect of Holes in UAV Wings Modified for VTOL Capability

Laith S. Sawaqed et al.

Summary: This research explores the possibility of modifying the X8 Skywalker from a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle into a convertiplane. Computational fluid dynamics and wind tunnel experiments were conducted to analyze the performance of different wing configurations. The results indicate that the proposed modifications can generate enough lift despite reducing the wing area, with the filleted hole configuration demonstrating less drag and turbulence effects at low angles of attack.

Virulence Structure of Puccinia coronata f. sp. avenae and Effectiveness of Pc Resistance Genes in Poland During 2017-2019

Sylwia Sowa et al.

Summary: This study characterized the pathotype structure of Puccinia coronata in Poland, revealing high pathotype diversity among isolates collected from different regions and years. The virulence of P. coronata isolates varied significantly between locations and years, with some isolates being able to overcome certain oat differentials while displaying modest overall virulence levels. This information can be valuable for developing resistance breeding strategies and selecting effective major genes for incorporation into cultivars.

Discovery and fine mapping of Rph28: a new gene conferring resistance to Puccinia hordei from wild barley

M. Mehnaz et al.

Summary: A newly discovered gene Rph28 conferring resistance to barley leaf rust was fine-mapped on chromosome 5H from wild barley. The gene, identified in a Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum-derived barley line, was found to be broadly effective against a diverse set of Australian P. hordei pathotypes. Further genetic analysis confirmed the presence of a single dominant gene for resistance in the identified barley line.

Eighty years of gene-for-gene relationship and its applications in identification and utilization of R genes

Bhavjot Kaur et al.

Summary: H.H. Flor's gene-for-gene relationship theory in the mid-20th century was a milestone in understanding plant diseases and host-pathogen interactions. Identification and cloning of R genes, along with advancements in genetics and biotechnology, have greatly improved crop disease resistance. The recent developments in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, and other OMICS tools are providing new opportunities for deeper understanding of host-pathogen interactions.
