This implies a potential prognostic biomarker and target for overcoming drug resistance in osteosarcoma.

Extracellular vesicle-associated repetitive element DNAs as candidate osteosarcoma biomarkers

Summary: Osteosarcoma is the most common malignant bone tumor in children and young adults, but there is currently no test for early detection. This study identified circulating nucleic acid sequences associated with serum extracellular vesicle preparations at the time of OS diagnosis, suggesting their potential utility as biomarkers for OS and other cancers. Through sequencing and qPCR analysis, over-representation of repetitive element DNA sequences in EV preparations from OS patients was observed, indicating a promising step towards developing an early detection assay for OS.

Overall, M1EVs show potential as an anti-cancer therapeutic approach and immunomodulators in cancer treatment.
