Advances and prospects of PVDF based polymer electrolytes

Yixin Wu et al.

Summary: Developing highly foldable batteries with no safety hazard is crucial for portable, wearable, and implantable electric devices. Solid-state batteries, particularly those based on PVDF electrolytes, show great potential, but also face challenges such as lower ionic conductivity and lack of reactive groups. Recent research has focused on gel polymer electrolytes and all solid polymer electrolytes based on PVDF to address these issues.

Molecular activation of fluoropolymer membranes via base piranha treatment to enhance transport and mitigate fouling ? new materials for water purification

Samer Al-Gharabli et al.

Summary: This work introduces a reliable method to activate fluoropolymers for further modification using piranha solution. Materials activated with base piranha are found to be more stable and resistant compared to those activated with acid piranha. Through systematic material characterization, the effectiveness of the generated separation materials is proven and assessed.

Performance evaluation of boron removal from wastewater containing high boron content according to operating parameters by air gap membrane distillation

Bahriye Eryildiz et al.

Summary: This study investigated the removal performance of boron from real wastewater using an air gap membrane distillation system, considering the impact of boron concentration, membrane pore size, and membrane material. The results showed that boron removal efficiency was above 99% in all conditions, with decreased permeate water flux as boron concentration in feed wastewater increased. Increasing membrane pore size enhanced permeate flux, with polypropylene membranes exhibiting the highest flux in AGMD tests.

Boron nitride nanosheet-induced low dielectric loss and conductivity in PVDF-based high-k ternary composites bearing ionic liquid

Yefeng Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, polymer/ionic liquid/hexagonal boron nitride nanocomposites were fabricated, showing a synergy between ionic liquid and BN that reduced dielectric loss and conductivity. The use of PVDF as the polymeric matrix, IL as the organic filler with high interface compatibility, and BN as the inorganic filler contributed to improved electrical properties, with a ternary composite achieving high permittivity, low loss, and low conductivity.

Binding mechanisms of PVDF in lithium ion batteries

Xuehu Zhong et al.

Summary: The study investigates the binding mechanism of PVDF in lithium ion batteries by simulation calculation and theoretical analysis. The results show different binding interactions between PVDF and LiFePO4 and between PVDF and Li(Ni1-x-yCoxMny)O2, providing insights for the development of new binders and the peeling of active materials in LIBs. Scanning electron microscopy and Auger electron spectroscopy analyses reveal the distribution of PVDF on the surfaces of active materials in LFP batteries and between Al and NCM in NCM batteries, with no chemical interaction detected among the surfaces of active materials, PVDF, and Al in both types of batteries.

A co-casting route enables the formation of skinless, hydrophobic poly (vinylidene fluoride) membranes for DCMD

Miaomiao Tian et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that by co-casting to reduce the solvent/nonsolvent exchange rate at the same time, PVDF membranes with uniformly rough surface structures can be effectively fabricated, facilitating the membrane distillation process. The PVDF concentration significantly affects membrane morphology, with increasing PVDF content leading to different phase inversion mechanisms.

Petronela Pascariu et al.

Summary: New hybrid materials based on lanthanide-doped ZnO nanoparticles reinforced in PVDF membranes were prepared using the electrospinning method, and they have not been reported before. Photocatalysts with inorganic nanostructures for degrading organic dyes under visible light irradiation were obtained, with the best performance observed in the PVDF/ZnO:La (37%) membrane. The photocatalytic stability of the materials was also demonstrated after multiple cycles of use.

Performance and energy evaluation of compact multistage air gap membrane distillation system: An experimental investigation

Suhaib M. Alawad et al.

Summary: The new design of a compact multistage air gap membrane distillation system shows potential for scaling up and commercialization. By studying the impacts of operating variables on system performance and production cost, it is found that increasing feed temperature and flow rates can improve permeate flux and output ratio, while increasing coolant temperature can decrease these parameters. The compact system strikes a balance between energy efficiency and productivity, with parallel flow arrangement slightly better in productivity and series flow arrangement better in energy efficiency.
