Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

EGFR-mediated Rad51 expression potentiates intrinsic resistance in prostate cancer via EMT and DNA repair pathways

Mohit Rajput et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the EGFR signaling pathway regulates DNA damage repair, survival, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) responses in prostate cancer cells through transcriptional regulation of Rad51. This suggests a novel role of the EGFR-Erk1/2/Akt-Rad51 axis in modulating EMT and DNA repair pathways in prostate cancer resistance mechanisms.

Deeper Insight in Metastatic Cancer Progression; Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition and Genomic Instability: Implications on Treatment Resistance

Kenneth Omabe et al.

Summary: Therapy resistance in cancer treatment is a major challenge, with epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) playing a crucial role. The molecular mechanisms of the EMT program, DNA damage response, and therapeutic resistance are complex and interconnected. Various molecular signals, including EMT-TFs, collaborate to induce EMT and enhance therapy resistance through an enhanced DNA damage repair system.

Human Papillomavirus-Negative Cervical Cancer: A Comprehensive Review

Biyuan Xing et al.

Summary: HPV-negative cervical cancers, predominantly adenocarcinomas, pose challenges in diagnosis and management due to unclear etiology and possible false negative results. It is important to pay greater attention to these cases as they are often diagnosed at advanced stages with poor prognoses.

PB01 suppresses radio-resistance by regulating ATR signaling in human non-small-cell lung cancer cells

Tae Woo Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel benzothiazole derivative PB01 was shown to have antitumor effects in radiation-resistant human NSCLC cells by inducing cell death and inhibiting epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. The mechanism involved induction of reactive oxygen species, ER stress, and activation of the ATR axis, suggesting that PB01 treatment could overcome radio-resistance during NSCLC radiotherapy.

Multi-omics Analysis of Ferroptosis Regulation Patterns and Characterization of Tumor Microenvironment in Patients with Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Wenchao Gu et al.

Summary: In oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), patients with a high FPscore have a favorable prognosis, exhibit a ferroptosis-related immune-activation phenotype, and potentially respond well to chemotherapy and immunotherapy. A high FPscore is associated with a low gene copy number burden and high immune checkpoint expressions.
