Effects of deltamethrin and thiacloprid on cell viability, colony formation and DNA double-strand breaks in human bronchial epithelial cells

Vedat Sekeroglu et al.

Summary: Deltamethrin (DEL) and thiacloprid (THIA) negatively impact cell viability and increase DNA damage in BEAS-2B cells in a concentration-dependent manner, with the mixture of DEL and THIA showing increased cytotoxicity at higher concentrations. The recovery period following exposure to DEL + THIA was found insufficient for DNA double-strand breaks repair.

Amitraz induced cytotoxic effect on bovine cumulus cells and impaired oocyte maturation

Noelia Nikoloff et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of amitraz on bovine cumulus cells and oocyte nuclear maturation. Results showed that amitraz induced late apoptosis and necrotic cells at certain concentrations, while decreasing DNA damage. There was also a decrease in metaphase II and observation of degenerate oocytes at specific concentrations. No significant differences were found in oxidative stress parameters.

Predictive modeling of hypoxic head and neck cancers during fractionated radiotherapy with gold nanoparticle radiosensitization

Myxuan Huynh et al.

Summary: Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as radiosensitizers can reduce total radiation dose and improve radiotherapy outcomes in head and neck cancers. Simulations indicate that AuNPs can effectively control tumors that are conventionally uncontrollable, and reoccurring AuNP administration allows for lower radiation doses.

Considerations and Technical Pitfalls in the Employment of the MTT Assay to Evaluate Photosensitizers for Photodynamic Therapy

Edith Alejandra Carreno et al.

Summary: This study standardized the conditions for evaluating the photosensitizer methylene blue in cell lines and highlighted the importance of variables like dose-response curve, time, cell density, and good controls. It emphasized the necessity of having optimal values within the linear range of the curve to avoid errors and outlined the best normalization techniques for observing treatment differences.

High cytotoxicity of betulin towards fish and murine fibroblasts: Is betulin safe for nonneoplastic cells?

Joanna Malaczewska et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxicity of betulin towards fish and murine fibroblasts. Results showed high sensitivity of mitochondria to betulin, with murine fibroblasts more vulnerable than fish fibroblasts. Further research is needed to confirm the selective toxicity of betulin towards malignant cells before potential therapeutic use.
