Synthesis and Fluorescence Mechanism of the Aminoimidazolone Analogues of the Green Fluorescent Protein: Towards Advanced Dyes with Enhanced Stokes Shift, Quantum Yield and Two-Photon Absorption

Ervin Kovacs et al.

Summary: Novel small-molecular analogues of the green fluorescence protein (GFP) chromophore were synthesised to expand and improve this fluorophore family and deepen the understanding of their fluorescence mechanism. The introduction of specific substituents and manipulation of the molecular structure successfully enhanced fluorescence emission intensity and altered spectral properties.

Cooperativity in Highly Active Ethylene Dimerization by Dinuclear Nickel Complexes Bearing a Bifunctional PN Ligand

Chunyu Feng et al.

Summary: This study focused on the cooperative effects of ligand design on catalytic activity and selectivity in ethylene dimerization. Specifically, dinuclear nickel complexes showed higher activity and selectivity compared to mononuclear complexes, indicating the possible existence of cooperativity between the two metal centers. Although the detailed mechanism is not fully elucidated, cooperative effects favor the isomerization of 1-butene and improve the selectivity for 2-butene in dinuclear complexes.

Improving the Robustness of Organic Semiconductors through Hydrogen Bonding

Paula Gomez et al.

Summary: Molecular organization is crucial in determining the intermolecular interactions that govern charge transport in organic semiconductors. By strategically inducing or preventing hydrogen bonding in pyrrole-based molecules, researchers demonstrated improved stability and thermal robustness, as well as enhanced charge transport properties.

Isocyanide Substitution in Acridine Orange Shifts DNA Damage-Mediated Phototoxicity to Permeabilization of the Lysosomal Membrane in Cancer Cells

Csaba Banko et al.

Summary: Immunogenic cell death is more efficient in eliminating tumor cells in cancer therapy compared to traditional apoptosis. During photodynamic therapy, photosensitizers targeting lysosomes can shift apoptosis towards more immunologically relevant necrosis-like cell death. A new compound, DM, modified from AO, shows improved lysosomal targeting ability. DM facilitates the occurrence of immunological cell death, potentially enhancing the efficacy of PDT.

Effect of molecular geometry and extended conjugation on the performance of hydrogen-bonded semiconductors in organic thin-film field-effect transistors

Paula Gomez et al.

Summary: A general synthetic method has been used for the condensation of the 7-azaindole substructure at both extremes of centrosymmetric fused polyheteroaromatic systems. Through reciprocal hydrogen bond interactions, the ability of 7-azaindole to work as a building block controlling crystal packing has been demonstrated. Organic thin-film field-effect transistors fabricated with the hydrogen-bonded semiconductors have shown potential in controlling molecular organization and promoting electronic communication between organic building blocks.
