SPARC production by bone marrow-derived cells contributes to myocardial fibrosis in pressure overload

Hannah J. Riley et al.

Summary: In this study, it was demonstrated in a murine model of cardiac fibrosis induced by LVPO that SPARC expression by bone marrow-derived cells is critical for driving cardiac fibrosis and increasing cardiac macrophages. The findings suggest that SPARC plays a key role in fibrotic deposition of collagen and expansion of myocardial macrophages in response to chronic pressure overload.

Summary: This study found that human pericytes can produce SPARC, an important protein involved in cell proliferation, migration, and cell-matrix interactions; hypoxia/starvation can regulate the expression of SPARC in cardiac pericytes; silencing of SPARC reduces the ability of pericytes to secrete collagen1a1.

Bearing My Heart: The Role of Extracellular Matrix on Cardiac Development, Homeostasis, and Injury Response

Ana Catarina Silva et al.

Summary: The extracellular matrix (ECM) plays a crucial role in heart development and disease, with fibrosis being a major manifestation of many cardiovascular diseases. Effective treatments for managing fibrosis and promoting ECM repair are currently lacking. Understanding ECM composition and function is important for developing more efficient therapies for heart conditions.

Direct in vivo reprogramming with non-viral sequential targeting nanoparticles promotes cardiac regeneration

Qiaozi Wang et al.

Summary: This study developed a non-viral biomimetic system for cardiac regeneration by coating neutrophil-mimicking membranes on mesoporous silicon nanoparticles loaded with microRNA1, 133, 208, and 499. The system utilized the inflammation-homing ability of neutrophil membrane protein and FH peptide's high affinity to tenascin-C produced by CFs for targeted delivery of miRCombo, leading to reprogramming of resident CFs into iCMs and improved cardiac function in a mouse model of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Summary: This study found that serum levels of MBL-2, TNC, and MDA were significantly increased in CAD patients, while TAC levels were significantly decreased. There were also changes in blood lipid levels in CAD patients, indicating that these biochemical parameters may be closely related to the development and progression of CAD.
