The role of cellular senescence in cardiac disease: basic biology and clinical relevance

Mozhdeh Mehdizadeh et al.

Summary: This review discusses the role of cellular senescence in cardiac disease, outlines therapeutic strategies for targeting senescence, and considers potential implications for improving the management of patients with heart disease. The complex senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) of senescent cells has important effects on cell and tissue biology. Future research is needed to better understand the precise role of senescent cells in various cardiac pathologies and develop strategies for preventing their accumulation.

ANGPTL2 Promotes Inflammation via Integrin α5β1 in Chondrocytes

Mami Takano et al.

Summary: The study suggests that ANGPTL2 may induce the expression of inflammatory factors in chondrocytes by activating the integrin α5β1/MAPKs, Akt, and NF-κB signaling pathway.

Stroma-derived ANGPTL2 establishes an anti-tumor microenvironment during intestinal tumorigenesis

Haruki Horiguchi et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that ANGPTL2 functions as a promoter in certain cancer contexts, but recent research indicates that it can also have a tumor suppressive role by enhancing immune responses. However, the mechanisms underlying ANGPTL2-mediated tumor suppression are complex and not well understood.

CD146 is a Novel ANGPTL2 Receptor that Promotes Obesity by Manipulating Lipid Metabolism and Energy Expenditure

Zhenzhen Wu et al.

Summary: CD146 acts as a new adipose receptor for ANGPTL2, activating CREB and upregulating CD146 during adipogenesis and adipose inflammation. Loss of CD146 suppresses adipogenesis in preadipocytes and lipid accumulation in mature adipocytes, suggesting it as a potential target for treating obesity.

Genome-Wide Association Analysis of Growth Curve Parameters in Chinese Simmental Beef Cattle

Xinghai Duan et al.

Summary: By comparing three nonlinear models describing body weight data of Chinese Simmental beef cattle, 87 significant SNPs associated with body weight were identified, along with many candidate genes. Through single-trait and multi-trait GWAS analysis, significant SNPs related to body weight were determined, with several candidate genes previously reported to associate with growth and development. Further research on these candidate genes may aid in exploring the full genetic architecture underlying growth and development traits in livestock.

Cellular aging beyond cellular senescence: Markers of senescence prior to cell cycle arrest in vitro and in vivo

Mikolaj Ogrodnik

Summary: The field of cellular senescence research has expanded rapidly from in vitro studies of aging to animal and clinical research, focusing on the role of senescence markers in aging, disease, and anti-senescence interventions. The presence and role of these markers in cells prior to cell cycle arrest, particularly in replicative aging and in vivo conditions, are discussed. The article also explores disparities in quantifications of senescence markers in vivo and the applicational value of broadening the cellular senescence paradigm.

ANGPTL2 Induces Synovial Inflammation via LILRB2

Summary: This study elucidates the mechanism by which ANGPTL2 induces inflammation via LILRB2 in synovial cells, with the finding that an anti-LILRB2 antibody can decrease the expression of inflammatory factors, offering a potential new avenue for treating osteoarthritis.

Higher levels of circulating ANGPTL2 are associated with macular edema in patients with type 2 diabetes

Ruili Yin et al.

Summary: This study suggests that elevated circulating level of angiopoietin-like protein 2 (ANGPTL2) may be associated with the severity of macular edema (ME) in patients with type 2 diabetes, as well as with the diagnosis of ME, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and C reactive protein (CRP). Additionally, ANGPTL2 was found to have a major effect proportion in the diagnosis of diabetic macular edema (DME).

Transcriptomic Analysis of Cellular Senescence: One Step Closer to Senescence Atlas

Sohee Kim et al.

Summary: Senescent cells that accumulate during aging are a major cause of aging, with varying effects in different cell types. Factors inducing cellular senescence differ, as do the rates of accumulation of senescent cells across organs. Single-cell RNA sequencing helps understand senescent cell characteristics, but limited throughput presents challenges in gaining comprehensive information.
