Genome-wide analysis of the CalS gene family in cotton reveals their potential roles in fiber development and responses to stress

Jiajia Feng et al.

Summary: This study identified multiple CalSs family members in four different cotton species using Arabidopsis callose synthase sequences, and revealed their regulation under abiotic stress through analysis of gene structure and conserved motifs. The amplification of CalS genes in cotton was promoted by whole-genome duplication/segmental duplication, and purification selection played a crucial role in the CalS family. Transcriptome data and qRT-PCR analysis showed the involvement of GhCalSs in abiotic stress responses, with GhCalS4 potentially playing a key role in fiber elongation in cotton.
