Cytomorphologic analysis of clear cell papillary renal cell carcinoma: Distinguishing diagnostic features

Brannan B. Griffin et al.

Summary: The study compared the cytomorphology, immunoprofile, and clinical management of clear cell papillary renal cell carcinoma (CCPRCC), clear cell RCC (CCRCC), and papillary RCC (PRCC). Certain morphologic features and immunostaining patterns were found to help distinguish CCPRCC from CCRCC and PRCC, aiding in the diagnostic confirmation and clinical management of patients with CCPRCC's low-grade, indolent behavior.

The Clinicopathologic and Molecular Landscape of Clear Cell Papillary Renal Cell Carcinoma: Implications in Diagnosis and Management

Stanley Weng et al.

Summary: CCPRCC patients exhibit higher proportion of females and African-Americans, more likely to have additional ipsilateral masses and bilateral disease compared to ccRCC tumors. Molecularly, CCPRCC tumors show fewer somatic aberrations and greater mitochondrial DNA depletion. In multifocal CCPRCC tumors, histologic concordance is estimated at 44%, with patients exclusively presenting with CCPRCC tumors showing no metastatic disease after 5 years.

Clear cell papillary renal cell carcinoma: an update after 15 years

Sean R. Williamson

Summary: Clear cell papillary renal cell carcinoma is a distinct entity with recognizable morphological features, often small in size and showing consistent immunohistochemical markers. It shares similarities with extrarenal benign neoplasms and may be reclassified as a benign or low malignant potential neoplasm based on its clinical behavior and molecular characteristics.

Clear cell papillary renal cell carcinoma: Characteristics and survival outcomes from a large single institutional series

James E. Steward et al.

Summary: The study investigated the clinical characteristics and survival outcomes of clear cell papillary renal cell carcinoma, showing that this tumor typically presents at a low stage and grade with favorable survival outcomes. A nephron-sparing approach to treatment should be considered due to the tumor's indolent nature and propensity towards multifocality.
