Flow synthesis of N-alkyl-5-methyl-2-pyrrolidones over Ni2P/SiO2 catalyst

Yazhou Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, N-alkyl-5-methyl-2-pyrrolidones were efficiently synthesized at high yields through reductive amination using a SiO2-supported nickel phosphide catalyst and molecular hydrogen as the reducing agent in a flow reactor. Additionally, the influence of the solvent nature, temperature, pressure, hydrogen, and liquid flow rates on the catalyst performance was investigated. The results showed that the reaction conditions play a significant role in the synthesis of the target compounds.

Influence of Bronsted acid sites on chemoselective synthesis of pyrrolidones over H-ZSM-5 supported copper catalyst

Venu Boosa et al.

Summary: Cu(0)/H-ZSM-5 was identified as a chemoselective catalyst for the synthesis of pyrrolidones through reductive amination of levulinic acid in aqueous media at ambient pressure. The chemoselective nature of Cu was explained by interactions with surface Bronsted acid sites observed through infrared spectroscopic studies. Decrease in Si/Al ratio of the H-ZSM-5 resulted in increased reductive amination activity, with physicochemical characteristics of the catalysts analyzed by various methods to establish a structure-activity relationship.
