O-Glycoside quercetin derivatives: Biological activities, mechanisms of action, and structure-activity relationship for drug design, a review

Seyedeh Roya Alizadeh et al.

Summary: Quercetin, a valuable natural flavonoid, exhibits various biological activities, but its low solubility and poor bioavailability limit its applications. Researchers have designed and synthesized new quercetin derivatives to improve its biological activities. This review focused on categorizing and studying the biological activities, structure-activity relationship, and action mechanism of O-glycoside quercetin derivatives.

The regulatory role of Korean ginseng in skin cells

Long You et al.

Summary: Skin, as the largest organ in our body, acts as a barrier against external stress and damages. Korean ginseng, processed into various products, has functional roles on different dermal cell types, including anti-photodamaging, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, anti-melanogenic, and wound healing activities. This information may serve as the basis for future research on the effects of ginseng-derived components on skin health.

Enhancement of skin barrier and hydration-related molecules by protopanaxatriol in human keratinocytes

Jeong-Oog Lee et al.

Summary: PPT enhances skin barrier function and hydration by promoting the expression of filaggrin, transglutaminase, claudin, hyaluronic acid synthase, and activating Src/AKT/NF-kappa B and MAPK signaling pathways.

Negligible Effect of Quercetin in the Pharmacokinetics of Sulfasalazine in Rats and Beagles: Metabolic Inactivation of the Interaction Potential of Quercetin with BCRP

Ju-Hee Oh et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential of quercetin to inhibit and induce BCRP in vitro and in vivo. While the induction effect of quercetin on BCRP was observed in vitro, the in vivo expression of rat BCRP was not changed by multiple quercetin administrations. Oral administration of quercetin did not affect the plasma concentration or pharmacokinetic parameters of sulfasalazine in rats or beagles.

Ginsenoside Rg3 attenuates skin disorders via down-regulation of MDM2/HIF1α signaling pathway

Na-Ra Han et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Rg3 can inhibit the production of TSLP and VEGF in HMC-1 cells, reduce the expression levels of MDM2 and HIF1α, and alleviate redness and swelling in mouse ear edema. This suggests a new mechanistic pathway for the antiinflammatory effect of Rg3, offering a potential therapeutic strategy for skin inflammatory diseases.

Jangsoon Kim et al.

Summary: Maclurin exhibited antagonistic activity against B[a]P effects by inhibiting AHR signaling and activating Nrf2-mediated signaling, suggesting its potential in protecting from B[a]P-containing pollutants. Additionally, its antioxidant property was demonstrated through ROS inhibition and activation of ARE signaling.
