Influence of Speed and Sliding Distance on the Tribological Performance of Submicron Particulate Reinforced Al-12Si /1.5 Wt% B4C Composite

Deepak M. Shinde et al.

Summary: The study investigates the wear and friction performance of Al-12Si aluminum alloy reinforced with 1.5 wt% submicron boron carbide (B4C) particles. Results show that the dispersion of B4C particles in the aluminum matrix enhances wear resistance of the composite material. The wear mechanism is primarily influenced by adhesion and delamination in the base alloy, while the mechanically mixed layer plays a key role in the wear performance of the composite matrix.

Evaluation of Mechanical and Microstructure Properties of Mg-Modified Aluminum Matrix Composite by Vortical Casting Method

Saeed Pashmforoosh et al.

Summary: The study utilized vortical casting to enhance the wettability of ceramic particles and investigated the effect of magnesium modifier on the properties of A356 aluminum matrix composite reinforced with nano-alumina-micro-copper reinforcing particles. The addition of 7% volume of magnesium was found to produce a composite with uniform structure and good strength.

Investigation of the Effect of Sr on the Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Nano-Alumina Reinforced Aluminum Matrix Composites by the Vortical Casting Method

Sadegh Shahriyari et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of vortical casting to prevent the agglomeration of alumina nanoparticles in molten aluminum, with a focus on the influence of strontium as a reformer material on the microstructure of the composite substrate. Results showed that the optimal amount of strontium for modifying the eutectic structure of silicon and improving the wettability of the A356 alloy is 0.5%. Higher amounts of strontium led to the formation of intermetallic Al2Si2Sr particles, with the highest reported strength at 191 MPa.

Effect of Al2O3Particle Size on Mechanical Properties of Ultrasonic-Assisted Stir-Casted Al A356 Matrix Composites

Ugur Aybarc et al.

Summary: Aluminum A356 alloy matrix composites reinforced with different fractions of Al(2)O(3) particles of two different sizes were produced and examined for their mechanical properties. The addition of 0.5 wt% nano-Al(2)O(3) resulted in the highest ultimate tensile strength and elongation among all compositions, with improvements in UTS and impact energy compared to the reference sample. Quality index calculations showed that 0.5 wt% nano-Al(2)O(3) addition yielded the optimum properties.

Mehrdad Shayan et al.

Summary: In this study, AA2024-SiO2np nanocomposites were prepared using the vortex method, and the effects of SiO2 content on microstructural and mechanical properties were investigated. The addition of 0.5vol% of nanoparticles improved mechanical properties significantly, but increased nanoparticle agglomeration at higher concentrations led to a decrease in mechanical performance of the composite.

Mechanical behaviour of age hardened A356/TiC metal matrix composite

Joiet Joseph et al.

Summary: The study investigated the mechanical performance of age-hardened A356/TiC. It was found that in the heat-treated composites, undissolved precipitates form an intermediate phase which increases mechanical properties, causing the hardness value to increase significantly.
