Improving High-Temperature Performance of High Si-Alloyed Ductile Iron by Altering Additions

Simon N. Lekakh et al.

Summary: High alloyed Si ferritic ductile irons offer potential benefits such as high strength and ductility at room temperature, as well as low oxidation rate at high temperature. However, their performance during thermal cycling is limited due to a significant drop in ductility at warm temperatures caused by poisoning of ferrite grain boundaries by Mg. Thermodynamic simulations were used to identify altering additions to mitigate this negative effect, leading to improved high-temperature performance.

Influence of Aluminum on Fatigue Strength of Solution-Strengthened Nodular Cast Iron

Christian Gebhardt et al.

Summary: The fatigue strength of high silicon-alloyed nodular cast iron is influenced by casting defects and graphite precipitates, which can be improved by controlling silicon microsegregation. Small additions of aluminum can adjust silicon segregation and enhance fatigue strength, but limitations exist in terms of castability and graphite morphology.

Thermo-cycling fatigue of SiMo ductile iron using a modified thermo-mechanical test

S. N. Lekakh et al.

Summary: This article presents a new mechanically constrained thermal cycling test method for studying the thermomechanical fatigue behavior of SiMo ductile iron under complex service conditions. Experimental results show that high temperature oxidation and decarburization can significantly affect the crack formation resistance of SiMo ductile iron.
