Long-term misdiagnosis and neurologic outcomes of thallium poisoning: A case report and literature review

Hailing Liu et al.

Summary: Thallium poisoning is a rare but potentially deadly condition that is often misdiagnosed. Correct diagnosis can be achieved through blood and urine tests, with neurological damage being the main long-term sequelae in affected patients.

Complexions therapy and severe intoxication by Thallium salts

Maria Rayisyan et al.

Summary: The clinical features of severe thallium salt poisoning include gastrointestinal tract lesions, nervous system (central and peripheral) damage, alopecia, heart rhythm disorders, and myocardial ischemia zones. Addition of potassium-iron hexacyanoferrate and deferasirox to standard therapy has shown improved thallium elimination rate and enhanced liver and kidney function in patients with severe thallium salt poisoning.

Human biomonitoring of 73 elements in blood, serum, erythrocytes and urine

Peter Heitland et al.

Summary: This study extends biomonitoring to 73 elements in clinically relevant specimens such as blood, serum, erythrocytes, and urine, providing valuable information for occupational or environmental hygienists, toxicologists, and clinical chemists due to the high number of determined elements and presented concentration ranges.

Early diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of five patients with acute thallium poisoning

Ting-Ting Wang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of treatments and outcomes of five patients with early diagnosis of acute thallium poisoning. Patients presented with symptoms of acute thallium poisoning, including hyperalgesia and abdominal pain, along with accompanying symptoms such as hepatic damage and alopecia. With early diagnosis and intervention, four patients had a good prognosis and no permanent sequelae.
