How to get to best oxygen evolution behavior from the electrolysis practice of the seawater

Jun Lu et al.

Summary: Direct seawater electrolysis is the main method for future hydrogen energy production, facing challenges due to chlorine evolution at the anode and cathode fouling. Alkali treatment of seawater is currently common but lacks a uniform standard. Growing NiFe LDH material on carbon cloth to explore optimal alkali treatment of seawater can reduce operating costs and prevent sedimentation impacts on equipment lifespan.

One-pot solvothermal synthesis of Co2P nanoparticles: An efficient HER and OER electrocatalysts

Balasingh Thangadurai Jebaslinhepzybai et al.

Summary: A facile one-pot ethyleneglycol-mediated solvothermal synthesis of orthorhombic Co2P with particle size around 20-30 nm was reported as an efficient catalyst for both HER and OER. Co2P showed low overpotentials and long-term stability in acidic and alkaline medium for HER, as well as an overpotential of 364 mV at 10 mA cm(-2) current density for OER. XPS analysis confirmed the formation of amorphous cobalt oxyhydroxide (CoOOH) as an intermediate during the OER process.

Charge state manipulation induced through cation intercalation into MnO2 sheet arrays for efficient water splitting

Jun Lu et al.

Summary: The electronic state of MnO2 sheets on nickel foams was tuned by intercalating transition metal ions, leading to an increase in oxygen vacancies and improved adsorption capacity for free -OH during catalytic reaction. Among the ions embedded in the MnO2 layer, Fe3+ showed higher oxidation activity and diffusion control contribution, resulting in more redox active sites and lower driving voltage required for achieving a certain current density during OER. This work not only established a method to activate oxygen vacancies in MnO2 using electronic effects, but also provided new ideas for enhancing OER performance.
