Mechanism of transition metal cluster catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction

Shasha Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, the structures of transition metal clusters were optimized using quantum chemistry methods for investigating their catalytic properties in the hydrogen evolution reaction. It was found that Cu clusters exhibited excellent catalytic activity, comparable to Pt catalysts, due to their suitable surface electron distribution and HOMO/LUMO levels. These findings provide insights into the mechanism of cluster catalysis in the HER process.

Density functional and microkinetic study of CO2 hydrogenation to methanol on subnanometer Pd cluster doped by transition metal (M = Cu, Ni, Pt, Rh)

Adhitya Gandaryus Saputro et al.

Summary: Through density functional theory and microkinetic calculations, it is found that doping transition metals can decrease the activation energy of CO2 hydrogenation to methanol, leading to an improved catalyst activity, especially in Pd6Ni clusters. Pd6M clusters show a preference towards the formate pathway over the RWGS + CO hydrogenation pathway.
