Parameter optimization of ZrCo-H system for durable tritium storage and delivery system of ITER

Rongxing Ye et al.

Summary: The cycling stability of the ZrCo-H system is influenced by various parameters including hydrogen pressure, temperature, composition, and stoichiometric ratio of H atoms. Maintaining a stoichiometric ratio of H atoms above 1 in the ZrCo alloy can prevent disproportionation reaction and improve cycling performance.

Evaluation of 3D printed buckyball-shaped cathodes of titanium and stainless-steel for IEC fusion system

Mahmoud Bakr et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of cathode material types on the neutron production rate in an inertial electrostatic confinement fusion device. Results show that the device with a titanium cathode produces significantly more neutrons under the same conditions compared to the one with a stainless steel cathode.

Influence of the Fe-doping on hydrogen behavior on the ZrCo surface

Qingqing Wang et al.

Summary: Ab initio calculations were performed on the Fe-doped ZrCo (110) surface to investigate the adsorption, dissociation, and diffusion of atomic and molecular hydrogen. The results show that while Fe doping facilitates H2 molecule dissociation, it hinders the diffusion of H atoms on the surface and into the bulk, leading to a decrease in hydrogen storage performance of ZrCo alloy.

Evaluation of tritium production rate in a blanket mock-up using a compact fusion neutron source

Keisuke Mukai et al.

Summary: A neutronics study was conducted on a blanket mock-up using a compact fusion neutron source, measuring the tritium production rate and successfully detecting high-energy particles. Experimental evaluations were conducted at positions with high thermal neutron fluxes, with errors mainly influenced by monitoring uncertainties.

Characterization of an ultra-compact neutron source based on an IEC fusion device and its prospective applications in radiography

Mahmoud Bakr et al.

Summary: Our group at Kyoto University is developing an ultra-compact neutron source based on inertial electrostatic confinement (IEC) fusion device. By employing a three-stage feedthrough system and feedback control system, the stability of the system is increased. The neutron yield characteristics were characterized by scanning as a function of applied voltage and cathode current.

Effect of multiple Ti doping on helium behavior in ZrCo

Qingqing Wang et al.

Summary: Helium can cause segregation of solute atoms in materials, which then greatly influences the behavior of helium. Studying the behavior of helium in tritium storage materials and the segregation of solute atoms is crucial for designing materials with strong helium retention capacity. The research found that segregated titanium inhibits the migration of helium and hinders its flow to grain boundaries, thereby suppressing the helium embrittlement effect.
