Conjugate heat transfer in anisotropic woven metal fiber-phase change material composite

Qinlong Ren et al.

Summary: The study explored the use of high thermal conductive woven metal fibers in phase change materials to improve heat transfer rate. It was found that optimal porosity woven metal fibers can balance heat transfer capability and energy storage capacity. Curved woven metal fibers demonstrated better thermal performance at high porosity, while straight woven metal fibers were more effective at enhancing heat transfer rate at lower porosity levels.

Melting performance enhancement of PCM based thermal energy storage system using multiple tubes and modified shell designs

Rehan Qaiser et al.

Summary: Experimental and numerical investigations were conducted for heat transfer enhancement in a horizontal Latent Thermal Energy Storage System using multiple heat transfer tubes and modified shell designs. The results showed that vertical double tube and triple tube V-configuration significantly improve heat transfer rates compared to the Base Case, with a corresponding reduction in complete melting times. Additionally, elliptic and triangular shell design modifications were found to increase heat transfer rates and reduce melting times effectively.

Visualization study on boiling heat transfer of ultra-thin flat heat pipe with single layer wire mesh wick

Shuaifei Zu et al.

Summary: The experimental study examines the ultra-thin flat heat pipe with a single-layer wire mesh core using a visual platform. The temperature fluctuation in the heat pipe is affected by thermal load, and the working modes include evaporation heat transfer, boiling heat transfer, and dry zone. With nucleate boiling, the thermal resistance in the evaporation section decreases while the resistance in the condensation section increases slightly, showing a certain regularity in overall thermal resistance.

Review and a Theoretical Approach on Pressure Drop Correlations of Flow through Open-Cell Metal Foam

Huizhu Yang et al.

Summary: Open-cell metal foams are commonly used in various industries due to their unique properties, but accurately predicting the pressure drop in these foams has been a challenge. This paper presents equations for fluid flow through open-cell metal foams, summarizes existing models for predicting pressure drop, and proposes new correlations for permeability and Forchheimer coefficient. The findings advance our understanding of flow characteristics in open-cell metal foams and provide guidance for their engineering application design.
