Experimental and Model Studies of Various Size Water Droplet Impacting on a Hydrophobic Surface

Summary: The study investigates the impact of droplets on a hydrophobic surface and examines the effect of droplet size on impacting properties. Numerical simulations were conducted to analyze the liquid pressure variation inside the droplet during impacting and rebounding. High-speed recording systems were used to monitor droplet motion on the impacted surface. The results show that droplet volume affects peak pressure enhancement and maximum height during impacting and retraction cycles, with larger droplets leading to faster droplet spreading velocity and smaller ratio of spreading period over retraction period.

Prediction of maximum spreading factor after drop impact: Development of a novel semi-analytical model incorporating effect of surface roughness

Summary: A semi-analytical model based on energy conservation and surface roughness has been developed to determine the maximum spreading factor in different surface roughness conditions. Experimental data shows that the model achieves a good agreement of almost 95% with most of the compared data.

Maximum spreading and energy analysis of ellipsoidal impact droplets

The theoretical analysis suggests that reducing the aspect ratio enhances the viscous dissipation during impact. The modified theoretical model reduces deviations from -23% to -51% to -5% to -25% and elucidates the scaling law between the maximum spreading factor and aspect ratio.
