Causes of death and comorbidities in hospitalized patients with COVID-19

Summary: The study conducted autopsies on 26 patients who died after SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19, finding that septic shock and multi organ failure were the most common immediate causes of death, often due to suppurative pulmonary infection. Most patients had comorbidities such as hypertension, ischemic heart disease, and obesity. The majority of deaths were found to be directly related to COVID-19, with contributory implications of preexisting health conditions to the mechanism of death.

Impact of SARS-CoV-2 on training and mental well-being of surgical gynecological oncology trainees

Summary: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has negatively impacted surgical training, household income, and psychological/mental well-being of surgical gynecological oncology trainees. The clinical impact was worse for trainees in countries with no national training program than for those in countries with a national training program, although national training program trainees reported greater distress. Recovery phase should focus on improving mental well-being and addressing lost training opportunities.
