Three-dimensional fatigue crack propagation simulation using extended finite element methods for steel grades S355 and S690 considering mean stress effects

Haohui Xin et al.

Summary: The assessment of fatigue crack propagation in steel structures is crucial for improving the application of high strength steel in construction. The study used the Walker equation to fit the fatigue crack propagation rate of steel grades S355 and S690, and developed a three-dimensional simulation subroutine which was successfully validated for both grades.

A novel metamodeling approach for probabilistic LCF estimation of turbine disk

Lu-Kai Song et al.

Summary: A distributed-coordinated neural network metamodel (DCNNM) is developed to enhance the computational efficiency and accuracy of probabilistic low cycle fatigue (LCF) estimation for turbine disk. By analyzing the probabilistic LCF estimation theory and evaluating the method under various randomness factors, the study provides useful insight for estimating LCF failure from a probabilistic perspective. The proposed DCNNM approach shows high efficiency and accuracy compared to other methods like direct Monte Carlo simulation and support vector regression.

Numerical study of fatigue damage under random loading using rainflow cycle counting

Tayeb Kebir et al.

Summary: This scientific work aims to simulate fatigue damage under random loading by considering the mean stress effect on fatigue lifetime and using the rainflow counting technique to assess the fatigue damage. The study reveals that fatigue under random loading is based on concepts of constant loading with the addition of damage summation, and the damage of materials due to stress cycles depends on both alternating stress and mean stress. The simulation method for cycles counting allows quantifying hysteresis loops, even for small amplitude stresses.

Numerical study of fatigue damage under random loading using Rainflow cycle counting

Tayeb Kebir et al.

Summary: This scientific work aims to simulate fatigue damage under random loading for aluminum alloys, taking into account the mean stress effect on fatigue lifetime. The study found that the number of relative damage due to each stress cycle determines the fatigue lifetime. Comparing results with existing literature confirmed the investigation in this paper.
