High energy storage quasi-solid-state supercapacitor enabled by metal chalcogenide nanowires and iron-based nitrogen-doped graphene nanostructures

Ahmed Bahaa et al.

Summary: A hierarchical cobalt selenide nanowire array was designed to serve as the positive electrode for asymmetric supercapacitors, offering enhanced electrical conductivity and short ion diffusion. The obtained cobalt selenide nanowire electrode demonstrated outstanding electrochemical features with high-rate performance and stability. Additionally, an iron titanium nitride@nitrogendoped graphene was prepared as the negative electrode, resulting in an energy density of 91.8 W h kg(-1) and capacity retention of 94.6% over 10,000 cycles for the asymmetric supercapacitors. These results provide an efficient strategy for developing redox-ambitious active materials with high capacity for advanced energy-storage systems.

Carbon aerogels activation by CO2 using an induction heated fluidized bed reactor

Ahmad Mohaddespour et al.

Summary: Resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) aerogels were synthesized by polymerization and carbonized in a novel induction heated fluidized bed reactor (IHFBR). The effects of activation time t and CO2 concentration y on the structural properties of carbon aerogels were examined, showing that IHFBR can significantly reduce activation time and enhance heat and mass transfer efficiency, facilitating the scale-up process.

Ultrahigh rate and high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries with resorcinol-formaldehyde xerogel derived highly porous carbon matrix as sulfur cathode host

Mayur M. Gaikwad et al.

Summary: The highly porous N-doped resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) carbon xerogel has been employed to address critical issues associated with Lithium-Sulfur Batteries (LSB), such as low sulfur utilization, insulating sulfur, and poor cyclic stability. By anchoring polysulfides and accelerating their redox transformation, the synthesized material shows excellent cycling stability and rate performance, overcoming key parameters necessary for commercial LSBs.

Economical synthesis of highly efficient and tunable carbon aerogels for enhanced storage of CO2 emitted from energy sources

Ashish Bhatnagar et al.

Summary: In this study, Carbon Aerogel (CA) with varying pore size and surface area was synthesized by adjusting the ratio of Resorcinol (R) and novel Catalyst (triethyl amine [TEA]) (C). The CA with R/C = 1000 exhibited the highest CO2 uptake capacity at 40 atm CO2 pressure, while the activated version of optimum CA (R/C = 1000) showed one of the highest CO2 storage capacities reported so far. This research proposes highly efficient and tunable CAs for enhanced CO2 storage.
