Geotechnical and micro-structural characteristics of phyllite derived soil; implications for slope stability, Lesser Himalaya, Uttarakhand, India

T. Ansari et al.

Summary: This study investigated the physical, micro-structural, and geotechnical characteristics of soil derived from phyllite weathering along certain sections of National Highway-7 in Uttarakhand, India. The stability analysis using different methods revealed that two locations were in a critical and unstable state. The research provides insights into the composition and deformation behavior of such soils, with potential implications for their future assessment and use in the construction industry.

Rock slope stability charts based on limit equilibrium method incorporating Generalized Hoek-Brown strength criterion for static and seismic conditions

Vinay Kumar et al.

Summary: Stability charts provide a graphical method for estimating the factor of safety of finite slopes with uniform soil properties. The study shows that stability numbers increase with slope inclination angle, while FOS values decrease. An evolutionary optimization method and limit equilibrium technique are used to determine the minimum FOS values for rock slope stability.

Rock slope stability evaluation using kinematic and kinetic methods along the Kamyaran-Marivan road, west of Iran

Mohsen Shariati et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the stability of seven rock slopes along the Kamyaran-Marivan tourist road, Kurdistan province, Iran, using various methods. Factors such as the presence of water, tension cracks, and seismic forces were found to greatly affect the stability of the studied rock slopes.

Limit Equilibrium Analysis Incorporating the Generalized Hoek-Brown Criterion

Youn-Kyou Lee et al.

Summary: A new approximation of the Mohr envelope for the GHB criterion is developed in this study, which is valid in a broad range of GSI values. Through the evaluation of the safety factor of a rock slope, the results indicate that the stability safety factor is very sensitive to the geometry of the crack and the selection of the GSI value.
