Enhanced toxic dye removal from wastewater using biodegradable polymeric natural adsorbent

Khadiza Tul Kubra et al.

Summary: The study investigated the encapsulation of toxic cationic dye methylene blue (MB) by polymeric natural carbohydrate turmeric powder (TP) adsorbent. The research optimized the MB dye adsorption system and quantified the contributions of adsorption and complexation on MB dye removal by TP adsorbent. The study found that TP adsorbent showed favorable dye capturing ability in neutral pH conditions and could be used for efficient removal of organic dyes from water samples to maintain water quality.

Efficient encapsulation of toxic dye from wastewater using biodegradable polymeric adsorbent

Khadiza Tul Kubra et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that using whole wheat flour as an adsorbent can effectively remove dyes from wastewater, with a maximum adsorption capacity as high as 162.33 mg/g. The effective pH range for CyV adsorption is in the neutral pH region, and the whole wheat flour adsorbent can selectively remove CyV dye even in the presence of various competing ions.

Summary: Wastewater containing dyes, heavy metals, and metalloids poses significant environmental and public health threats, and conventional treatment methods are insufficient in removing them completely. Biosorption emerges as a promising green and cost-effective technology to tackle this issue, with the need for developing more bio-based adsorbents for better pollutant removal efficiency.
