Liquiritigenin decreases tumorigenesis by inhibiting DNMT activity and increasing BRCA1 transcriptional activity in triple-negative breast cancer

Fang Liang et al.

Summary: This study found that liquiritigenin inhibits cell proliferation, increases apoptosis, and represses invasion and migration in triple negative breast cancer cells. It achieves these effects by inhibiting DNMT activity and promoting BRCA1 expression. Liquiritigenin may be a promising candidate for the treatment of triple negative breast cancer.

Enzymatic basis for stepwise C-glycosylation in the formation of flavonoid di-C-glycosides in sacred lotus (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.)

Cheng-Yong Feng et al.

Summary: This study identified two C-glycosyltransferase genes in sacred lotus and showed that they play a crucial role in the biosynthesis of flavonoids. The enzymes UGT708N1 and UGT708N2 were found to catalyze the C-glycosylation of 2-hydroxyflavanones and 2-hydroxynaringenin, forming mono-C-glycosides and di-C-glycosides. The research also proposed a new biosynthetic pathway for flavonoid di-C-glycosides and identified a novel uridine diphosphate-glycosyltransferase (UGT708N2) in N. nucifera.

CrUGT87A1, a UDP-sugar glycosyltransferases (UGTs) gene from Carex rigescens, increases salt tolerance by accumulating flavonoids for antioxidation in Arabidopsis thaliana

Kun Zhang et al.

Summary: The research investigated the functional role of UGTs in salt tolerance, specifically focusing on the gene CrUGT87A1 in Carex rigescens. The study found that overexpression of CrUGT87A1 led to increased flavonoid accumulation, promoting antioxidation and enhancing salt tolerance in plants. This knowledge can potentially be used to improve crop breeding for salt tolerance.
