Thermal Performance of Constrained Melting of PCM Inside an Elliptical Capsule of Two Orientations

Nabeel S. Dhaidan

Summary: The orientation of the capsule has a small effect on the melting process, while the wall heat flux has a significant influence. In oblate capsules, the melting process is relatively faster and requires less time.

Effect of two different fins (longitudinal-tree like) and hybrid nano-particles (MoS2 - TiO2) on solidification process in triplex latent heat thermal energy storage system

Kh Hosseinzadeh et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of a triplex-tube heat exchanger with hybrid nanoparticles to address the weak thermal conductivity of Phase Change Material (PCM) based storage units. Through Galerkin Finite Element Method (GFEM) analysis and experimental validation, it was found that the combined usage of nanoparticles and tree-like fins significantly reduces solidification time, with tree-like fins demonstrating the best performance.

Summary: Theoretical simulation and experimental validation were conducted on a new design tube-bundle latent-heat thermal storage (LHTS) system, showing superior thermal performance and fast charging and discharging periods compared to a double-pipe LHTS. The time for charging and discharging processes was shortened by about 85.3% and 82.5%, respectively.

Heat transfer and fluid flow in a PCM-filled enclosure: Effect of inclination angle and mid-separation fin

Tarek Bouzennada et al.

Summary: This paper presents a numerical study on the thermal behavior within a phase change material filling up a rectangular capsule with and without adding a fin, showing that the melting and storing energy rate increase with changing the capsule's inclination angle. Moreover, adding a fin can reduce the melting time and accelerate the rate of storing thermal energy, with the best choice being a horizontal fin with an inclination angle of 0 degrees.
