Transcriptome analysis reveals changes in silkworm energy metabolism during Nosema bombycis infection

Nan Hu et al.

Summary: Energy metabolism is crucial for the proliferation of microsporidia in infected host cells. Our study analyzed the energy metabolism response of silkworms to microsporidia and found that the early stages of infection affect the basic metabolism and biosynthesis processes of the silkworm. These results provide new insights into understanding N. bombycis infection and the molecular mechanisms involved.

Novel mechanisms of epithelial ion transport: insights from the cryptonephridial system of lepidopteran larvae

Damandeep Kapoor et al.

Summary: Lepidopterans, known for their beauty and ecological importance as pollinators, have larvae that are economically important pests of forests and crops due to their feeding habits. The larval body's extreme alkalinity aids in digesting plant proteins, while uninterrupted excretory function is necessary due to the presence of plant secondary metabolites. Studies have shown that epithelial ion transport in lepidopteran larvae can be rapidly adjusted, involving unexpected roles for various ion channels and gap junctions.

MEGA11 Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis Version 11

Koichiro Tamura et al.

Summary: MEGA software, a mature tool for computational molecular evolution, has been enhanced with new additions for building timetrees of species, pathogens, and gene families using rapid relaxed-clock methods. These additions include methods for estimating divergence times, confidence intervals, and new options for tagging sequences with spatiotemporal sampling information. The enhancements aim to improve user experience, result quality, and the pace of biological discovery.
