RNA interference-mediated silencing of vATPase subunits A and E affect survival and development of the 28-spotted ladybeetle, Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata

Wei Guo et al.

Summary: RNA interference is a powerful tool for controlling insect pests, with HvvATPase A and HvvATPase E identified as potential novel molecular targets for managing the 28-spotted ladybeetle. Silencing these genes led to significant mortality in the larvae, deterred feeding behavior, and arrested development of the ladybeetle. Furthermore, the bacterially expressed dsRNAs showed higher efficacy in causing mortality in both larvae and adults. Additionally, there were no significant adverse effects of the dsRNAs on the predatory ladybeetle, indicating their potential use in pest management strategies.

RNAi of vacuolar-type H+-ATPase genes causes growth delay and molting defect in Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata

Jie Zeng et al.

Summary: Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata is a serious pest to nightshades and cucurbits, and RNA interference (RNAi) triggered by double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) shows potential for control. Three vATPase genes, particularly HvvATPaseE, were identified as potential target genes. Young larvae are more susceptible to dsRNA treatment, highlighting potential for dsRNA-based pesticide development.
