Synthesis and stability of Sn(II)-containing perovskites: (Ba,SnII)HfIVO3 versus (Ba,SnII)SnIVO3

Eric A. Gabilondo et al.

Summary: Investigations into the flux-mediated syntheses of metastable Sn(II)-containing hafnate and stannate perovskites aimed at understanding key factors related to their synthesizability. The research showed that reaching a Sn(II) concentration of up to 70% is possible, but it requires multiple reaction cycles to achieve a homogeneous distribution of ions.

Interplay between Valence Band Tuning and Redox Stability in SnTiO3: Implications for Directed Design of Photocatalysts

Leo Diehl et al.

Summary: Directed design of new photocatalysts remains challenging; for example, SnTiO3 demonstrates wide valence band, low hole effective mass, and visible-light H-2 evolution activity, but surface oxidation hampers efficient extraction of photoexcited electrons. Extending ab initio calculations to various Sn(II) oxide semiconductors reveals a broad range of valence band maxima and competition between dispersion and stability against oxidation.

An Improved Z-Scheme for Overall Water Splitting Using Dye-Sensitized Calcium Niobate Nanosheets Synthesized by a Flux Method

Koya Hojo et al.

Summary: A Dion-Jacobson phase calcium niobate was synthesized using both a flux method and solid-state reaction. Chemical exfoliation of the proton-exchanged niobate produced colloidal Ca2Nb3O10- nanosheets for dye-sensitized H-2 evolution, with flux-based nanosheets showing higher activity compared to those synthesized by solid-state reaction, particularly in water splitting systems. The improved H-2 evolution properties of the flux-derived nanosheets could be attributed to more efficient electron transfer pathways demonstrated by transient absorption spectroscopy.

Tetragonal tungsten bronze type Sn(ii)-based quaternary oxides: a new class of visible-light-absorbing semiconductors for photoelectrochemical water oxidation

Yalong Zou et al.

Summary: This study reports a Tetragonal Tungsten Bronze type Sn(ii) oxide and its photoanodes for the first time, with a bandgap of 1.85 eV and intense absorption characteristics. The photoanode of this oxide shows an IPCE 10 times higher than that of the pyrochlore polymorph, indicating new possibilities for solar energy conversion materials.
