Structure-Property Relationships in Photoluminescent Bismuth Halide Organic Hybrid Materials

R. Lee I. I. I. I. I. I. Ayscue et al.

Summary: This study reports on the preparation of seven novel bismuth(III)-halide phases under mild synthetic conditions, each showing unique photoluminescent properties that can be tuned by controlling composition. The heterometallic phases exhibit rare visible excitation pathways based on halide-metal to ligand charge transfer, providing fundamental insight into the structure-property relationships within these Bi halide organic hybrid materials.

Electronic structure of the bond disproportionated bismuthate Ag2BiO3

Mohamed Oudah et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that Ag2BiO3 exhibits a bond disproportionated state with holes on the oxygen atoms, supporting the presence of two different bismuth states through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results. The compound has an estimated band gap of approximately 1.25 eV and is expected to host Weyl nodal chains in its band structure. Additionally, similarities were highlighted between Ag2BiO3 and the well-known disproportionated bismuthate BaBiO3, with both compounds showing importance of hybridization of Bi 6s and O 2p atomic orbitals in shaping the band structure.

Long lifetime phosphorescence and X-ray scintillation of chlorobismuthate hybrids incorporating ionic liquid cations

Jian-Ce Jin et al.

Summary: Two new chlorobismuthate hybrids incorporating ionic liquid cations exhibit significant improvements in room-temperature phosphorescence quantum yield, with compound 1 achieving a high QY of 25.05% due to its more compact structure. The temperature-dependent emission behaviors of the two compounds differ, potentially influenced by electron-phonon interactions or exciton localization. These compounds also show X-ray scintillation properties, with compound 1 being utilized in luminescent thin films and flexible round wafers.
