Quantitative description of infrared radiation characteristics of preflawed sandstone during fracturing process

Ke Zhang et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that infrared radiation temperature abnormalities are often associated with crack development in rocks under external loads. New experiments on preflawed sandstone reveal changes in infrared radiation characteristics during the failure process, leading to the proposal of two new IRT indicators with higher sensitivity to abnormalities. By exploring the connection between IRT indicators and rock fracturing, a new quantitative model was developed to provide early-warning information for rock failure prediction.

Cyclic fatigue characteristics of rock failure using infrared radiation as precursor to violent failure: Experimental insights from loading and unloading response

Kewang Cao et al.

Summary: This research paper introduces a new method for predicting violent rock failure by measuring rock characteristics using infrared radiation under uniaxial cyclic loading and unloading. By determining the loading-unloading response ratio based on infrared indexes, different precursors of rock failure can be identified and categorized for warning purposes.

Experimental investigation on infrared radiation features of fracturing process in jointed rock under concentrated load

Haiqing Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of thermal variations caused by concentrated load on jointed strata, analyzing the characteristics and standards of different modes of cracks in the initiation and propagation process. The findings from the distribution of infrared radiation temperatures provide important references for geophysical prospecting in jointed rock mass.

A transient two-phase flow model for production prediction of tight gas wells with fracturing fluid-induced formation damage

Yonghui Wu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a semi-analytical model considering formation damage and two-phase flow in hydraulic fracturing of tight formations. The model modifies the triple-porosity model, uses a low permeability fracturing fluid invasion layer, and assumes two-phase flow to capture choking effects. An analytical solution and successive iteration method are used, validated with a commercial numerical simulator. The model shows potential for production prediction and analysis in hydraulically fractured tight gas wells.

Experimental Study on the Thermal Infrared Spectral Variation of Fractured Rock

Jianwei Huang et al.

Summary: Different types of fracturing modes exhibit different trends in thermal infrared (TIR) radiance variation. Experimental observations show that extensional fissures lead to increased radiance with a local peak in the 8.0-9.7 µm range, while local bulging results in decreased radiance with a local valley in the same range. These changes in radiance are influenced by both temperature and emissivity variations, with the characteristic waveband relating to quartz emissivity changes.
