Strong and highly flexible slivers prepared from natural bamboo culm using NaOH pretreatment

Hong Chen et al.

Summary: Researchers developed a simple method using NaOH pretreatment to process bamboo slivers into super-flexible bamboo slivers with improved tensile strength. The treated bamboo slivers showed significantly increased tensile strength and improved flexibility. The removal of lignin and hemicellulose led to an interlocking structure in bamboo slivers, resulting in higher strength and flexibility.

How does ultrasound influence the thermal stability of wood?

Jing Qian et al.

Summary: This study revealed the effects of ultrasound treatment and alkali treatment on wood pyrolysis, showing that both treatments reduced extractives content, increased relative crystallinity, and disrupted the structure of hemicellulose and lignin to different extents. Ultrasound time and alkali concentration were identified as key factors influencing the treatment effects.
